My local Scheels has a new DPMS Panther with all the bells and whistles for target shooting, chambered in .243 Win, for 00 (flat top, floated barrel/grip, bipod, etc), and I am considering purchasing this to use for 100y range shooting, varmint hunting, and also deer hunting (in Minnesota, .243 is the minimum deer caliber).

Assuming I can put good optics and trigger on this gun, do you think it would be a reasonable comprimise to allow me to hunt both varmint and deer with the same gun? It makes alot of sense to me, instead of a .223 that i couldn’t use for deer, or a .30-06 or .308 that would be too expensive for much plinking, and innappropriate for varmint hunting.

I see that a person can get the rounds for about $ .75 each from good brands, but you can get Ballistic Silver Tips (with the wicked chrome shells) for about .10 when you’re stalking some trophy bucks. I figure that so long as my optics let me take the shot precisely, shot placement will compensate for caliber.

I’m in Denver and all the geese from Canada are making their way here for the winter. The coyotes are out every night as usual, but at night the geese disappear. Hm mm…any ideas where they go, bed down etc.? I would think if the coyotes were getting them regularly, the coyote population would’ve exploded by now and that we would notice less geese by winter’s end each year

A country preacher decided to skip services one Sunday and head to the hills to do some bear hunting. As he rounded the corner on a perilous twist in the trail, he and a bear collided, sending him and his rifle tumbling down the mountainside. Before he knew it, his rifle went one way and he went the other, landing on a rock and breaking both legs. That was the good news. The bad news was the ferocious bear charging at him from a distance, and he couldn’t move. "Oh, Lord," the preacher prayed, "I’m so sorry for skipping services today to come out here and hunt. Please forgive me and grant me just one wish…please make a Christian out of that bear that’s coming at me. Please, Lord!"

That very instant, the bear skidded to a halt, fell to its knees, clasped its paws together and began to pray aloud right at the preacher’s feet.
"Dear God, bless this food I am about to receive…."

Some groundhog hunting fun.

I plan to use it as a varmint rifle, but it may end up as a first hunting rifle for my niece. Also, does anyone know if the trigger can be adjusted the same way the trigger on a Remington 700 can be?

Anyone who reads the news knows that for some years now there have been ten Republican scandals for every Democratic one. Gingrich, DeLay, D’Amato, Stevens . . . gay sex in public rest rooms, drunken shootings of hunting partners, Keating . . . the list is endless. So why do these dishonest people try to convince us that Democrats are the source of most scandals, or are the less honest of the two parties?

I am just curious because they aree roughly the same size so i was wondering who would win if they fought.

After I catch it, can I eat it? : )

I work at an animal sanctuary. We got a baby coyote pup in who was abandoned by his mother (or she was killed) at about 3 weeks of age. He was bottle fed the rest of the way and now he resides with the sanctuary. Problem is - hes still nervous around humans. Hes only about 6 weeks now (still drinking milk replacement, but out of a dish). I was going to crochet him a little snuggly blanket for him to snuggle into when hes sleeping. I was thinking that the scent of my hands would be all over this blanket and he would learn that he can trust me. Do you think this is right? Or do you think its just traumatic to make him sleep with this scary new smell?

I cant say that I watched ALL network news tonight at 6:30, but I did watch ABC news.
Did they conveniently leave out the part that the NJ governor would have never been in the crash that nearly (and still may) take his life - had it not been for Sharpton going on his witch hunt against Imus?
The governor was on his way to the governors mansion for a special meeting between Imus and the Rutgers BB team.
Maybe its a little too cynical to look at it this way?….but it is worth mentioning with all the attention they placed on this story over the last 5+ days.
Eric M: I found this "answer" fairly funny. Especially the part telling me to "calm down". Was I getting out of control?…lol…anyway…The point that he wasnt wearing his seatbelt is a valid point for another topic…I didnt say Shaprton was at fault for the serverity of the crash, or if the mechanics was working, or anything remotly close to that. I certainly wasnt saying that I was a better news source than the network news, and I didnt attend, nor will I attempt to post all details about the incident or the crap that lead to the incident. The point was, the governor wouldnt have been traveling to the mansion that night - had it not been for the meeting..which was prompted by Shaprton’s rants.
Your point of view wouldnt change by anything I say anyway, but I had to say I found it humourous…or am I getting out of control?

See a Zastava Mark X “old school” .22-250 varmint/target rifle shooting at 100 yards. Note .4″ group filmed next to target. If your volume is up, you might be able to hear the dust fall after each shot. Close ups feature glass-bedded walnut stock, Douglas stainless 30″ full-blank barrel and Canjar Trigger. Entire 18 pound rig is set up just as it originally was ca. 1972. Thanks for watching.

I read this book a couple of years ago and now i want to read it again but cant remember the author or title! all i remember is the girl falls off a ship and ends up on this island and befriends a wolf/coyote and after like 3 years there her father comes back for her. Please if u have any idea what book this is let me know!

Last night I was watching the News and they were talking about how they had this Easter Egg hunt for dogs filled with Doggie Treats. I live n Arkansas. I have never heard of this before. I have a Sheltie named Bonnie , and she is wonderful.
So I guess this makes me a horrible Doggie Mommy.

all you need to hunt varmints is a nongame license in texas right? interested in getting into this hobby. but what do you do with the carcass of animals you cant eat? like coyote and such? whats the best website for varmit hunting? thanks.

I’m sure the rules on this vary from state to state, but I live in Georgia and I only have time to go hunting maybe twice this year. I’ve gone once already this season and got a one-day hunting license for it. I’m thinking about finding the time to go again this Saturday, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to purchase another one-day license.

If anyone knows the regulations pertaining to this, it would help me a lot! I’ve scanned the code book and haven’t been able to find anything. Thanks!
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get the hunter’s safety course this year so that I could get a year-round license :-(. I have a pretty busy schedule and it SUCKS, LOL! I figure I can just get a one-day and be done with it.

Im going to buy my first rifle and I want to get a rifle that has the potential to be a target shooting rifle, up to 200 or 300 yds, and could be used to hunt deer. I know about all of the standard rifles, but ive heard of people hunting with an AR, The only one i could find that fits inside my price range, less than around 0, is the Model 1 ar15 varmint rifle kit 24" in the 5.56 NATO. I don’t know much about the AR, is that rifle a good rifle for both target shooting and deer hunting, most likely target shooting. There is a link to the page bellow.

I was just wondering, i know your not allowed to hunt with, and more importanly own, some rifles in certain states. What states are you allowed to own that rifle in, in peticular what states in New England, MA, VT, NY, and NH in peticular. Or how would i find that out?
Also, I’ve been hearing about upper and lower kits, whats the difference and what are they?
does that kit come with EVERYTHING you need to build, (if it requires you to build it), or assemble it? I’ve looked at other kits that say it is to put on a lower reciever.

I am pretty sure I saw a coyote in my neighbors yard while walking my 5 month yr. old puppy. Recently, attacks in other towns, just minutes away have been reported, and a few yrs. ago There were coyotes on my street. I want to know how i can protec myself and my puppy if one is in our yard!

It was sick and grotesque, people were inhumanely chopping up seals right there on the ice in Canada. Then they were dragging the seals on the ice to led them bleed. That was honestly sick. I’m glad I have a strong stomach. Over 250,000 seals are going to be killed this year I think. My question is this, what’s the point in hunting seals???? What in the world does it benefit? What do people get from seals, they don’t even have fur do they??

I am new in the hunting world. I always wanted to get me a hunting dog , but I did not want to deal with the large amounts of poop.

So I selected a Jack Russell for small game hunting. I hope I made the right choice.

We think that a stray we have shows a lot of coyote temperament and certainly looks like one. We would love to know more. She’s a wonderful dog in lots of ways.

It does for me, since those other animals are camines.

The one insisting Anna’s Nicole’s husband is a serial killer? The one stirring a witch hunt? He was her only companion and as far as we know the father of her only remaining child. How did this newscaster get on national T.V. and make me leave Fox News FORVER?
