Keep in mind i’m ONLY interested in these 2 calibers, if i wanted to know about how accurate your 6mmbr shoots i would have asked. If i wanted to know how much you like 300winmag, i would have asked.
Out of the 2 calibers, 17hmr and 22wmr, which one has the best proven accuracy and consistancy? I already have a 22wmr rifle that shoots 1/4moa @ 100 yards, are the 17hmr’s more accurate, less accurate or about the same. The longest shot’s i would ever plan on taking would be between 100 yards and 150 yards, considering 150 yards is about max for consistant accuracy from the 22wmr. All I shoot now is paper, but in the next year i will be moving to where i can go varmint hunting, but am limited to ONLY using rimfire, hence my curiousity about 17hmr. Also any info concerning the 17mach2 would be appreciated.
I guess I should add something here, when I get my 1/4moa groups I’m shooting off a bench with a steady rest and sand bags and a scope. I’m also using a Savage 93FVSS (Heavy barrel stainless, thats been crowned and free floated)
At 50 yards using Federal #757 I’m shooting one hole groups with 5 shots. When I reach out to 100 yards I use Remington #R22M2, 5 shots give me one ragged hole, but not a nice single round hole like I get at 50 yards. Here’s the downside, Federal has discontinued #757, I’m already stocked up on it, at least enough to last me thru the summer, but once it’s gone, that’s it.
My state has no stipulation on ammunition requirements for varmint and nuisance animal hunting. If the hunter wishes to use FMJ he may do so. Or JSP, JHP, hard cast lead, anything they want to use is ok. Would you ever consider using full metal jacket ammunition for varmint, pest and nuisance animal hunting? List reasons why, or why not if you don’t mind. I already have a mindset on this topic, and I’m curious what others thoughts are on this subject.
I was hooked on guns from the moment I first shot a pop can with my friend’s gun a few weeks go. Ever since then, I’ve been drooling over guns on the internet and wishing I could shoot some more, and have one of my own. Finally ended up getting my very own 12 gauge Mossberg Maverick today for starters. Anyway, enough blabbering, to keep the topic legit I have some questions about ammunition. Unfortunately the shells seem a little on the steep side of pricing (Big shock, huh? I knew this fact but ignored it until now), I picked up a 25 box of game load for today. Are there any cheaper alternatives, if you just want to go out in the field and practice your aim, and not really do any damage? Sorry, I don’t really know a lot.
Also, I’m going to screw around and shoot some geese with my buddies this weekend. What type of ammo should I buy for optimum accuracy? Also, what other types of wildlife are "fair game" for my gun? Just wondering, I’m not interested in much but shooting some birds for now, but will this do for varmint hunting, other game, etc?

Custom made reloading dies by gunsmiths or hand dies from LE Wilson are mostly used. Reloading cartridges gives you flexibility in powder charge and selection of quality bullets, powder and primers,for your rifle, thus improving accuracy. Good reloding manual is a must to have, Sierra, Hornady,Nosler, Vihtavuori, Norma, and others publish very good reloading manuals.
I have been thinking of buying a German Shorthair puppy I recently saw at a breeder. It will be primarily a family pet but I might hunt with her a little. Has anybody had bad experiences with GSP as family pets?
I’m going to buy the Beeman RS3. That rifle comes in .22 caliber OR .177 caliber. I am going to be using it for plinking, target shooting and some varmint hunting. Which caliber is best all-round? (I need experienced answers.)
I am 17 turning 18 in January. I live in the country have a lot of varmints and deer on a couple 100 acre property( forest,fields you know ) I am thinking maybe a semi-automatic maybe .223? I want to go big game hunting around Canada. So I am thinking of getting two rifles —1 varmint semi—-1 bolt action big bastard—- I have a clean record and wont be stupid with it I am just wondering how hard will it be for me to maybe get a remington r-25? I live in Ontario. I am guessing its a restricted firearm if i just want to use the gun for target and hunting will it not be a problem going through the safety courses and what not? Can you help me in any way here or give me any tips or advice?

I am going to go after prairie dogs. I have loaded my .243 Win with IMR 4350, 90 gr Spitzer. My friends said I had to heavy of a bullet for prairie dogs. I told them something that just made them jump out of there seats. I heard that Newell and some of his friends would be in the area, and if we were lucky we could take a few out, what do you know atleast 20 others started hearing about this and made similar loads. Do you think this will take out and make a huge splatter of crap when hit, or is this to much.
Me and my friend just passed our hunting licence and posessions licence and my dad and his dad taking us out to buy 3 guns each. We had to pay around half. The calibers i want is a 22-250. rem, 270. win and 300. wsm. I have shot them all and i can handle and love them. I was think of gettting the 22-250 in either the browning A-Bolt varmint stalker, the 270. win in browning a-bolt medallion, tikka t3 hunter or winchester model 70 sporter duluxe, and 300. wsm in browning a-bolt stainless stalker. WHat do you think?
My friend wants a 223. rem but he doesn’t know what model, any suggestions, a 243. win in remington model 700. CDL and a 30-06 in remington model 700 sps. What do you think?

I’m making a selection for a predator hunting rifle for wolves, coyotes, cougars, etc out too 250 yards or so and have narrowed it down to the savage 12 varminter series in .22-250 or the howa m-1500 varminter in .22-250 and also the bushmaster .223 varminter rifle. I’m simply looking for performance in a predatr hunting rifle. Let me know which one you would choose, much appreciated!
Is the high price of Gamo’s Whisper Deluxe necessary for me? I’ll tell you where I’ll be shooting and what I plan to do with my air rifle.
OK, so I live in the city and have neighbor’s on both sides, so noise is a factor in this decision. I have C02 and green-gas-powered air guns and airsoft guns, electric airsoft guns, and a Pneumatic Pump Crosman 764SB (the same gun as the 760 Pumpmaster, but instead it has a black finish and comes with a 4×15 scope) and so far have had no problems with noise so far.
So I will be shooting in the backyard for a LOT of the time but also possibly the woods, and I plan to do varmint hunting as well as perhaps small game hunting and of course, plinking for fun! So I do need some good power and I want a .177 break-barrel though.
So basiaclly all the features of the Gamo Whisper Deluxe fit my needs but so do many other guns but not all of them look as sexy or are as quiet. I’m not really willing to pay more than 0, hopefully less than 300 bucks though.
I Really want a better scope for Varmint Hunting I was looking for a good scope for this rifle to use for coyotes,bob cat ect. I don’t want a cheap quality scope but I do want a very good one I looked at a Leupold VXIII 6.5 - 20 X 50mm LR scope that I liked.or would you recommend another kind of scope for this rifle.I want to shoot up to 1000 - 2000 yds.
I shoot a deer. I eat the deer. Well, I at least eat most of the deer. Well, maybe most of the easy to cut off muscle and organs. You shoot a coyote, you don’t eat it. You shoot a woodchuck, you don’t eat it. You shoot a crow, you don’t eat it. Should you be shooting things you don’t eat?

Got a new varmint rifle! Fulton Armory custom shop .223 with Miculek compensator. I added a 4-14x scope and a bipod, and took it out today to sight it in at 200 yards. (I'm going to use it in a local 3-gun competition where I'll need to consistently be able to knock over bowling pins at 200 yards with it.)
