I was hooked on guns from the moment I first shot a pop can with my friend’s gun a few weeks go. Ever since then, I’ve been drooling over guns on the internet and wishing I could shoot some more, and have one of my own. Finally ended up getting my very own 12 gauge Mossberg Maverick today for starters. I annihilated some Gatorade bottles on a gravel road by his land less than half an hour ago and already I’m dying to go out again. When’s the next Shotgunners Anonymous meeting again? :)

Anyway, enough blabbering, to keep the topic legit I have some questions about ammunition. Unfortunately the shells seem a little on the steep side of pricing (Big shock, huh? I knew this fact but ignored it until now), I picked up a 25 box of game load for today. Are there any cheaper alternatives, if you just want to go out in the field and practice your aim, and not really do any damage? Sorry, I don’t really know a lot.

Also, I’m going to screw around and shoot some geese with my buddies this weekend. What type of ammo should I buy for optimum accuracy? Also, what other types of wildlife are "fair game" for my gun? Just wondering, I’m not interested in much but shooting some birds for now, but will this do for varmint hunting, other game, etc?

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

What is the best grain, type, and shape (FMJ, HP, or SP) bullet to get for coyote hunting in .223 caliber. What ammo should I buy that is reasonably priced in .223 caliber that will definitely take down a coyote up to 150 yards, and what grain, type, and shape should i get for small game hunting/varmint hunting in .223 also. Please answer full questions and tell me what brand and price if possible. PICS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED (bullets and/or varmints shot with .223) thanks

Ok so im about to invest 0+ dollars into a Gamo rifle that i would be able to take down squirls and other small/medium game with. Now my two choices have narrowed down to the Gamo Varmint Hunter and the Gamo CFX both have very good ratings. which one of these weapons would be the best for me to hunt with and which ammo would you recommend? Thanks =)

also whats a good ammo for these little guys (got a budget) and some long and short shooting tips please.PS do you eat other varmints because i know you dont eat yotes (coyotes)

Tools of the Trade segment from Maximum Predator Control Volume 1. Gary walks you through the various rifles that are best for predator hunting.

Im looking at using this weapon to hunt and to plink. I might even do a little varmint hunting with it, lol. Im serious about the varmint hunting. I plan on hunting deer which in Kansas will be at close range. For targets Id like something that can reach out a fair distance. What are my best bets for ammo on the three different uses?

The reason why I ask is that I will go varmint hunting for rats and chipmunks (no, I don’t intend to eat them). Right now, I have a pretty decent selection of .22lr ammo. I have cci stingers, cci, mini mags, federal 550 packs and some other varieties. For varmint hunting, is it better to use a slower, heavier round or a lighter, faster round? The cci stingers (which cci says are meant for varmint hunting) are 32 grains and have a muzzle velocity of 1640ft/sec. On the other hand, the rounds from the federal 550 pack are 36 grains and have a muzzle velocity of 1260ft/sec. Which would be better for pest control/varmint? I always thought that 40 grain rounds were best for hunting. Was I wrong?

it would be mostly for beaver, nutria, and coyotes
I hunt in a swamp, so most of my shots will be within 100yds.
I’m seriously thinking about getting one tomorrow. I’m looking at a savage bolt with the accutrigger. By the way, which ammo is cheaper?
