I have a 22-250 Howa Hogue and it currently has a scope. I would like to get a fairly high power scope with reticle that compensates for different yardage. There are 3 different scopes that i am looking at NIKON COYOTE RIFLESCOPE(not a fan of the BDC reticles), Barska Varmint Rifle scope(it has the rangefinding reticle and i would like to know how these works), NcStar Mark III 4-16×50 with the Sniper Reticle or the NcStar Mark III 6-24×50 Rangefinding. Please give a little insight. Thank You and Happy Hunting

ive been hunting coyotes for a long time now. at first i just shot them with a rifle, but after awhile it got kind of boring so i started using a crossbow of my buddies. i eventually bought a compound bow and was using that for awhile. than i started trapping them, hunting them with dogs etc.

its exhilarating, and ive ever since evolved from that rifle. currently i have some farm rabbits i keep caged in my shed, and whenever i go hunting, i bring one with me in a cage. i like to break one of their legs, or put a pin through their nose that i can tug on with a string. i bring it with me hunting because its cries are far more realistic than my predator call. occasionally i bring gas and matches if they need extra encouragement. DONT WORRY- i always bring my tire iron to put them out of their misery after the hunt, unless they die from shock during the hunt.

anyways, i recently got my hands on a flammenwerfer 35 from some contacts of mine, and was considering using it hunting coyotes. i hear they have some distance and would at least be able to replace the use of a shotgun on one of my hunts. do you guys think it would work? i think ill try it out on at least one coyote to decide its effectiveness.

what methods do you guys use to kill coyotes? what is your favorite? please share.
i am not "warped", and this is a legitimate question.

I live in ontario and my hunting partner owns some farm land which i hunt rabbit, deer, duck&geese and this year i am hunting coyote. Now there are tons of coyote there, last year while hunting whitetail i saw 4 coyotes in 3 hours.

Now my hunting partner is using his 223. with 55 grain ballistic silver tips. I dont own a varmint load but i am getting one soon. Im looking into getting a 22-250 because i have hunted with it before and loved it. I was either thinking of getting it in the remington model 700 sps stainless or the browning A-Bolt varmint stalker. Which one should i get? But i am hunting with a 270. win 100 grain untill i get it

I shoot a deer. I eat the deer. Well, I at least eat most of the deer. Well, maybe most of the easy to cut off muscle and organs. You shoot a coyote, you don’t eat it. You shoot a woodchuck, you don’t eat it. You shoot a crow, you don’t eat it. Should you be shooting things you don’t eat?

And what is the point of people who want to hunt wolf? You aren’t going to eat it, are you?
Machinist

You don’t like my question. I have a solution.

Right now i have a 30-30 marlin 30 AS, 22LR Mossberg, 12 gauge single shot (not sure on the manufacture it was a gift), 30-06 Remington model 742 woodsmaster, and a 7mm rem mag Remington model 700 BDL. The 30-06, the chamber wont close properly. So im looking for a new 30-06 and i was thinking of either getting the Sako A7, Tikka T3 Laminate Stainless, Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker or maybe the Sako 85 Finnlight. I would want the finnlight but its really expensive. What do you suggest?
as you can see i don’t have a varmint load and i love coyote hunting so im debating between a 22-250 or a 243. win. They both shoot about the same, fast and flat. The 243. win would give me a chance to grow to hunt whitetail. So what do you think. I was looking at either the Sako A7 or the Tikka T3 laminate if i dont get one of those models in the 30-06

I had done some studying on coyote hunting and its strategies. Now I think that I’m ready to head afield, I read several reports on Minnesota coyote population; it stated that most of the coyote population were in the southern part of the state, but I just can’t narrow it down to a good spot to call and hunt them.

Just wondered if this was one of the better varmint barrels for an AR-15. Also, which length would be good for coyote hunting/home protection. Probably go with 18". Think they’re actually made from Wilson, so you’d think they would be very good.

What is the best grain, type, and shape (FMJ, HP, or SP) bullet to get for coyote hunting in .223 caliber. What ammo should I buy that is reasonably priced in .223 caliber that will definitely take down a coyote up to 150 yards, and what grain, type, and shape should i get for small game hunting/varmint hunting in .223 also. Please answer full questions and tell me what brand and price if possible. PICS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED (bullets and/or varmints shot with .223) thanks

I am very interested in this rifle. Light, rigid, great accuracy out of the box. I want to hunt from coyote to deer, and possibly elk, but am unsure of the "varmint" tag. I don’t care to shoot prairie dogs, but enjoy the range.

I need a new varmint rifle. My buddys farm has a coyote problem and there eating his chickens, whiles his 2 neighbors are also having the same problems with chickens and turkeys. The yotes are eating them and scaring the calfs. He and his neighbors asked me to hunt them. I use to borrow a rifle from a friend but hes hunting with me. I dont really want a 223. rem. But i cant decide between a 204. ruger, 22-250. rem or the 243. win. I have a 12 guage, 30-30. win, 7mm rem mag and a 30-06 but i cant use the rifles of that caliber where i hunt and i need a longer range firearm then a 12 gauge. I find the 204 interesting but i dont know anyone who shoots one. I love the 22-250 and the 243. win. I was thinking of getting the 243. win cause if i needed too then i could take a deer or too, but at the same time im not sure if i want to use this rifle for just strickly varmint or not. What would you suggest? I believe i will be getting it in a Tikka T3 Laminated Stainless with a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10×42mm silver with BDC reticle or a Nikon buckmaster 4.5-14×40mm silver without BDC reticle. as well as a Harris bipod but i dont know what size
Stupidnameshaveallbeentaken- i cant use a 30-30, 7mm or my 30-06 because there all bigger then .275. In my area we cant use anything bigger then .275 so we can use a 270. win and down.

Hi,

I am an avid hunter in AZ, I already have a 30-06 and 2 shotguns plus a bunch of handguns. I want to add another rifle to my collection, I usually use my 30-06 for deer but I want to hunt coyote, javelina, other predators and possibly more. I am looking for a gun that is light and can be used to take all of these animals, it needs to be smaller than a 30-06 though.

These are the ones I’ve been looking at.

Marlin 30-30
Marlin .444
.243 of some sort
45-70

Please keep in mind I want a simple and light weight gun.

Thanks

i wanna do some predator hunting like fox, (red or gray), coyote or raccoon. i downloaded animal distress call from a website. and i think loaded them onto an old mp3 player and i gonna put them on repeat and have them play through a speaker. i wanna put the speaker in a small clearing in some woods around my house. and i plan on making a blind on the ground by a tree and then going out to woods at night putting the calls out and sitting there for a while and wait for something to come in.

also what about lighting will light scare away a furbearer. i was just wondering i heard they use a red spotlight will one of those hatlights work mine has a red color on it. and do you keep the light on all the time. and how often do raccoons come in to your calls. i heard that raccoons come in calls in great numbers.

Me and 3 of my hunting buddies are going coyote hunting soon. If we call in some other predator than a coyote. what can we do (besides stop calling) to keep it from coming in closer to us. We don’t want to put ourselves in a situation were shooting it is our only option.

Tools of the Trade segment from Maximum Predator Control Volume 1. Gary walks you through the various rifles that are best for predator hunting.

i was thinking a 10/22, but i found out that it could not take out coyote humanely. heres a list of what i wanna hunt.

varmint

rabbit

squirrel

ground hog

skunk

coyote

really, all i want is a bolt action. nothing fancy. just nice gun that can take out something the size of a coyote without much trouble.. thanks.

p.s, i know ive been posting alot in here, and im sorry about that, but i want to make a very informed decision before buying anything. thanks a bunch guys and girls!

I live in Cave Creek, Arizona, and am wanting to get into Coyote Hunting. If anyone here is from around here I would greatly appreciate if you knew of any places to go. I go into Tonto National Forest right off of Cave Creek Rd. to hunt jack rabbits. Is this a good spot? Is flatter land better than land with hills? Also I recently purchased a Remington 700 SPS Varmint chambered in .308 win. This is the rifle I will be using since I am starting to get into long range shooting. I am wanting to get the SWFA Super Sniper scope.(10×42) Is this a good scope for yote’ hunting? Thanks guys! Hope to hear from you soon!

Which varmint/target rifle would you reccomend: Remington XR 100 22-250, or a CZ 527 Varmint Kevlar .223? I really liked the set trigger on the CZ but it felt as if the Remington fit me a little bit better. I also like that the CZ is a repeater and not single shot. Also, this will mainly be used for target shooting (100-400 yards) and for an occasional coyote hunt.

If I go coyote hunting will I need a tag for it? I looked on the DRN website, I looked in the hunting restriction book and couldn’t find anything about varmint/coyote hunting. I even asked my friends who have gone coyote hunting before and they don’t know.

I enjoy hunting on my days off work, but now that most of the big game seasons are over, i have recently tried to go coyote hunting. I haven’t had any luck or even seen anything. Every time I go, I wear full camouflage, bought a varmint call, and use it every time I go.
What are the best times during the day to go?
Where are the best places to find them?
I live in Boise, Idaho, so if anyone is familiar with the area, I usually go out near Emmett.

I live in MN and want to try my hand at varmint hunting. I need coyote hunting 101. Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine related to me abouut certain people who enter into your life, whether if it’s a family member, friend or lover. There are people who have a purpose in your life and who mean well. But unfortunately there are people who are just the opposite. These people are indentified as:

The Cougar- master of intimidation
The Wolf- cunning and deceptive
The Coyote- trappers who lie in wait for your downfall

What are your experiences

I really want to go. like really bad, and i think if i said the right thing my parents would let me, but i dont no what…any help?

Ok, FYI i go coyote hunting with hounds. not with a gun, that would be really boring…

I am going to purchase a .22-250 for varmint hunting. I know this gun is not supposed to be used on whitetail deer, but given the chance what bullet should a person use? Most of my shooting takes place within 100 yards when I am hunting whitetails. The only reason I am asking this is because whitetail season and coyote season are in effect at the same time.

Thanks for the input.

Would a german sheppard take be able to take on a coyote?

Would either of these dogs be attacked by a coyote or would they defend themsevles aka put up a good fight?

Sheltand sheepdog

or

German sheppard

I have a mossberg .22 with a 30 rnd clip that i think i can kill a coyote with or should i use my other guns which are my 1943 GM .30 M1, beretta storm 9mm carbine, or a .20 ga.
