Second groundhog hunt, this time with my Benjamin Discovery .22 using the usual JSB predator at a distance of 10 yards.
The other night I shot a opossum in the chest area with a .22 cal Predator Polymag air rifle pellet… It dropped like a rock(fell over on it’s side). It seemed to have died instantly… I know head shots are quick but I think the pellet struck his heart or something because it just stopped moving,as compared to when I shot 3 pellets into the head of a opossum I got before this one… The head shot opossum before this last one I just got in the chest, fliped around like a gator doing a death role once I made contact with it’s brain… A real violent head shot death… Crazier than any other head shot experience ever… Dirt was flying everywhere… What are factors involved when figuring out which type of shot is best for that certain animal…. Heart shot or head shot???? P.S. I can make difficult shots from far out, using most guns. AR’s to pellet guns… My accuracy is on point to hit um wherever seems best…. Oh yeah just for your information: Buy a pellet gun and practice shooting inside/outside at home. It truly is great practice for when you go shooting or hunting for reals. The Daisy Powerline is an excellent air rifle with great accuracy for only .95 at Walmart. It comes with a cheesy scope but it still works great and will keep you on point just like me… Thanks for the advice and extra details in your answer…. Tim
I have 400 acres in Fairfield, SC. And it is LOADED with coyotes. I mean everywhere you look there are tracks going back and forth. I have shot three within five minutes one day while i was deer hunting. I wanted to start getting into predator calling but our property has like no big open fields. We have 2 or 3 small 1/2 acre fields but thats it. Can someone tell me how i should try to call them in? Thanks
RIght, i’m a minor, but I like fishing and hiking, and may do allitle hunting in the future. I plan on doing allot of fishing out in the middle of nowhere, and i would really like to have something other than my bowie knife in the unlikely event I’m attacked by a bear or cougar, or a predator of the 2-legged variety. I know that at 18, you can carry a rifle or shotgun, but i’m interested in a handgun, specificly a revolver. So, can I legaly carry a handgun under the age of 21 in the state of Oregon, Washington, or Idaho, or anywhere else for that matter? if so, can I legaly carry it concealed? if not, would a back pack, fannypack, or in my waistband, but I have a jacket on over it, but not trying to hide it, be considered concealed? also, can anybody tell me if theres much of a differance in acuracy between the NAA blackwidow with the 2 and 4 in. barrels? thanks.
Me and 3 of my hunting buddies are going coyote hunting soon. If we call in some other predator than a coyote. what can we do (besides stop calling) to keep it from coming in closer to us. We don’t want to put ourselves in a situation were shooting it is our only option.
Tools of the Trade segment from Maximum Predator Control Volume 1. Gary walks you through the various rifles that are best for predator hunting.
I now wish to expand my hunting focus (which now encompasses Africa and India) to envelope the sea. I wish to hunt the giant squid.
What rifle would be a good pick? Please don’t suggest a speargun, those are intended to skewer fish, mind you, whereas the giant squid is a 60f.t.+ 8 ARMED PREDATOR that will NOT HESITATE to pull you DOWN into the DEPTHS to a watery grave!
So can you suggest to me a rifle that would addaquately to the job? By this I am refering to 3 or less shots in the body, not including a brainshot as the brain is small and will be almost impossible to hit!
I appreciate your cooperation!
Sure, I can understand how field raised meat is very cruel, they’re just raised to be killed and they’re pumped with growth hormones until they’re brutally slaughtered and produce the fattening meat at McDonalds.
But unlike raised meat, the deer I hunt live full lives and they are spared a horrible death in exchange for a clean rifle shot. Deer are more likely to die in the jaws of a predator than from old age, and hunting also prevents them from running up in your backyard and stealing your trash.
So do you enjoy wild game?
I want to do some hunting with my winchester pellet rifle. However I need very good pellets so the small game will die on contact, i don’t want to hurt an animal and let it suffer in pain i want to make sure it dies. I used predator polymag pellets because they looked very sharp but when i got the them the sharp tip was too soft and often fell off. I need a very strong pellet, i’m thinking i need a sharp steel tip.
so i went and picked up one one those predator calls at walmart its made by cedar hills its called a rodent squeaker. i am trying to to get in to coyote hunting. So if you would help i would high appreciate it. i just need to know how to make the right sounds and how frequent to make them thanks.

I’m looking for some instructions on ways to make lanyards out of parachute cord to hang my duck/predator calls on when i go hunting.
I've been a deer and rabbit hunter for most of my slightly young life. I was reading in Outdoor Life a bit about predator calling and hunting, and would love to give it a try. I live in Michigan, but I hunt mostly in Southern Indiana. Anybody out there with some experience have solid advice on how to get started and where/how to hunt? In my experience, shared knowledge is the best way to learn how to hunt, rather than trying to "do it by the books."
Thanks guys.
Please, please don't quote an article to me…I read them too.
I will be using a 1,000 fps .177/.22 interchangeable air rifle with a scope and .22 cal Predator Polymags as ammo… I will be shooting in .22 Cal only… How should I go about hunting this large bird??? What steps should I take???… Thanks for the detailed information… Jessi
I used a 800 ft per sec .22 cal air rifle and a predator polymag hunting pellet… Step by step, what would be the best way to find out the damage done to his body upon the impact site of this crazy looking pellet… Thanks for the details… Jessi
Would a mini 14 be a good rifle to varmit/predator hunt with?
