I will be mainly hunting whitetail deer and varmints. I currently have a Nikon 4-12X50 on my .300 Win Mag and love it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what scope I should get?

Keep in mind i’m ONLY interested in these 2 calibers, if i wanted to know about how accurate your 6mmbr shoots i would have asked. If i wanted to know how much you like 300winmag, i would have asked.

Out of the 2 calibers, 17hmr and 22wmr, which one has the best proven accuracy and consistancy? I already have a 22wmr rifle that shoots 1/4moa @ 100 yards, are the 17hmr’s more accurate, less accurate or about the same. The longest shot’s i would ever plan on taking would be between 100 yards and 150 yards, considering 150 yards is about max for consistant accuracy from the 22wmr. All I shoot now is paper, but in the next year i will be moving to where i can go varmint hunting, but am limited to ONLY using rimfire, hence my curiousity about 17hmr. Also any info concerning the 17mach2 would be appreciated.
I guess I should add something here, when I get my 1/4moa groups I’m shooting off a bench with a steady rest and sand bags and a scope. I’m also using a Savage 93FVSS (Heavy barrel stainless, thats been crowned and free floated)
At 50 yards using Federal #757 I’m shooting one hole groups with 5 shots. When I reach out to 100 yards I use Remington #R22M2, 5 shots give me one ragged hole, but not a nice single round hole like I get at 50 yards. Here’s the downside, Federal has discontinued #757, I’m already stocked up on it, at least enough to last me thru the summer, but once it’s gone, that’s it.

Is the high price of Gamo’s Whisper Deluxe necessary for me? I’ll tell you where I’ll be shooting and what I plan to do with my air rifle.

OK, so I live in the city and have neighbor’s on both sides, so noise is a factor in this decision. I have C02 and green-gas-powered air guns and airsoft guns, electric airsoft guns, and a Pneumatic Pump Crosman 764SB (the same gun as the 760 Pumpmaster, but instead it has a black finish and comes with a 4×15 scope) and so far have had no problems with noise so far.

So I will be shooting in the backyard for a LOT of the time but also possibly the woods, and I plan to do varmint hunting as well as perhaps small game hunting and of course, plinking for fun! So I do need some good power and I want a .177 break-barrel though.

So basiaclly all the features of the Gamo Whisper Deluxe fit my needs but so do many other guns but not all of them look as sexy or are as quiet. I’m not really willing to pay more than 0, hopefully less than 300 bucks though.

Can anyone help me make a decision?

I Really want a better scope for Varmint Hunting I was looking for a good scope for this rifle to use for coyotes, bob cat ect. I don’t want a cheap quality scope but I do want a very good one I looked at a Leupold VXIII 6.5 - 20 X 50mm LR scope that I liked.or would you recommend another kind of scope for this rifle.I want to shoot up to 1000 - 2000 yds.

i will be hunting mostly deer and elk, with the few varmints that need to leave. my price cap is 00 for rifle and scope. i will also be reloading my own brass, so something that is EZ to get the supplies to reload would be nice.
sorry it appears that i was not clear, and that i left some things out. the rilfe will not be for vermin ferther than 50 m. and i have a lever action 30-30 that i do not have a scope on and hunt up to 60m with it. but i hunt more often with a bow, not a rifle. i have been slowly making the kills closer and closer, and know i have made it down to about 3.1m. so i would like to start going longer because i can’t go much closer and i would like the challeng. plus if it is a question of doing the math or knowing the physics, it is not a problem i have a masters in physics. and i am well on my way to a Ph. D. in chemistry. so i you have answered already could you add any thing that you would recomend, wether it is tips or was of traning or any thing. Oh and the reloading i have a 40 cal. XDM that i reload.

I’m interested in purchasing a rifle. I’m looking at either the Remington 700 SPS varmit or the Savage 10 FP or Savage 111FXP3 package. I’d like to keep the cost low seeing as how i’d still need a scope and mounts/rings so the savage package looks appealing.
My question is which is a good caliber to buy? I plan to spend more time with it at the range than in the woods. Hunting would be more of a secondary purpose and targets a primary. When used for hunting, it would be for white tail deer.
I already own a couple pistols and shotguns as well as AR’s and varmint rifles but am trying to own at least one from every category (revolvers/pistols/semi auto, shotguns, etc). What is good? 270? 308? 30-06? 7mm? 300 mag? 25-06? 243?
What are your opinions of the calibers you’ve used? Which would be a good way to go?

I have been debating in my head what I want to use this gun for. I asked a previous question about what kind of rifle to get and the responses have led me to these 2 choices. I want to use this rifle for hunting and for long range target shooting (I probably won’t be doing anything competitive) being as how thats the most fun I have shooting. I’m going to scope the rifle as well.

The thing that bugs me is that the .30-06 is supposed to give you a bit more accuracy at longer ranges. But the heavier barrels of the 700 varmint guns are supposed to give you greater accuracy at range with the .308. That being said would one be better than the other or would the different barrel and different caliber even each other out at long ranges?

I know the .308 and .30-06 are both great medium size hunting calibers so that doesn’t really matter.
I live in Northwest Arkansas so I do a lot of hunting in the Ozarks. Lots of woodland areas. Although when I do my target shooting I have some land that I shoot on that is just a flat field which is why I am looking for something that is versatile.

The gun is a sidelever .22 that screws apart into two pieces and stores in a suitcase. it has a leapers 4 x 40 red mil dot scope. i used to have a pellet gun that fired 900 fps in .22 that took out everything in my yard. i am concerned that this gun will obviously not live up to the expectations but i was told my other gun had inflated fps with light pellets.i bought more than 50 dollars worth of the most devastating hunting pellets on the market from predators to rws hollow points. i want this gun to be able to shoot faster than 500 fps..money isnt an object

heres the gun and for the record i know not all chinese guns are good but my last one was and it wrecked shit…

i just found a rifle kit that is everything to build an AR 223/5.56 except for the stripped lower reciever. im looking for a decent, yet affordable deal that can be bought on a college students budget. id like it to be without the carrying handle so that i can put a scope on it for varmint hunting. it doesnt have to have a bull barrel, but if its a good deal i definitely wouldnt mind lol

Anyone have experience/ratings for the Truglo 8-32X44 scope for varmint hunting? I own a Simmons Prairie master 8-32X44 and it is a great scope but no longer made. I called Natchez and they said these two makes are not the same scope. The price is about out the door for the Truglo and is about the same for the Prairie master scope I own.

The other night I shot a opossum in the chest area with a .22 cal Predator Polymag air rifle pellet… It dropped like a rock(fell over on it’s side). It seemed to have died instantly… I know head shots are quick but I think the pellet struck his heart or something because it just stopped moving,as compared to when I shot 3 pellets into the head of a opossum I got before this one… The head shot opossum before this last one I just got in the chest, fliped around like a gator doing a death role once I made contact with it’s brain… A real violent head shot death… Crazier than any other head shot experience ever… Dirt was flying everywhere… What are factors involved when figuring out which type of shot is best for that certain animal…. Heart shot or head shot???? P.S. I can make difficult shots from far out, using most guns. AR’s to pellet guns… My accuracy is on point to hit um wherever seems best…. Oh yeah just for your information: Buy a pellet gun and practice shooting inside/outside at home. It truly is great practice for when you go shooting or hunting for reals. The Daisy Powerline is an excellent air rifle with great accuracy for only .95 at Walmart. It comes with a cheesy scope but it still works great and will keep you on point just like me… Thanks for the advice and extra details in your answer…. Tim

I looking in to buying my first rifle in 308 and my choices are Rem 700 SPS Varmint or a Tikka T3 Lite in 308. i want to use the rifle for Hunting and long range shooting up to a 1000 yards i think i have a scope picked out its a Bushnell Elite 3200 Tactical 10×40.

What do you think i should do?
my spending limit is one thousand dollars for the rifle and scope

In order, these are my preferences:
1) Small game / pest hunting capabilities
2) Velocity/Power
3) Accuracy
4) Quality

Some differentiators:
-Gamo Varmint Hunter comes with scope, light, & sight, .177 cal, break-barrel, least expensive.
-850 Airmagnum is Co2 repeater, available in .22, least velocity, most expensive w/o accessories.
-Crosman Tac-1 comes with scope, light, sight, bipod, break-barrel, .22 cal, least quality/durability?, higher price.

i am in the market for a varmint gun. i have heard about the .308 reaching accurately out to 400 yards. but for just a strictly varmints? .22/250? .222? .243. i would be shooting coyotes and ground hogs, and maybe a fox or two. what scope should i use? i like Bushnell, but what else? not many shots over 200 yards, but i might have to shoot farther. lots of details would be very good.

I just got a Ruger M77 Hawkeye .270 and am looking into buying a scope for it. I plan to hunt varmint, deer and elk as well as other big game. I will hunt primarily in Oklahoma, Colorado, Wisconsin and Montana. The most common hunt for me will be for whitetail with shots ranging from 85-300 yards, but I want a scope that will cover all possible conditions I will encounter in the future.

What is the best small game hunting and pest control air rifle that I can get for 0 or less?
Please consider quality, accuracy, FPS and footpounds, and if the rifle needs a scope or if the iron sights work well.

I am Looking for a good, reliable rifle for target shooting. I am also on a tight budget considering the fact that I am saving up for more important things like college. I have read some reviews on some cheaper hunting rifles and I have to say I really do not know what I should get.

I’m leaning toward a Remington 700 sps in .308, but I’ve read that it suffers from some setbacks like gritty action and a cheap stock (the stock seems to be the biggest complaint). Some said that the Varmint model is also a good buy.

I also need a decent scope. I’ve read that Nikon has some pretty good scopes, but I’m open to any other suggestions.

Really I’m pretty flexible, but I’d like something that would last me a while without taking a ~00 bite out of my wallet. Thanks!

i am looking at buying a taurus rifle i dont know which model yet but i enjoy the look and the pump action. and i was wondering wich model you guys would recommend for varmint hunting and just all around fun. i have thousands of ground squirrels and rabbits. and also can a scope be put on these rifles? i am looking at the model 72 .22 mag pump action carbine in blue steel. and might seem stupid but what the heck is blued steel? thanks alot for the help
or can you please tell me a nice 22 or something that is pump action that is good for varmint hunting. and what is a 17hmr is that smaller then a 22?
because there insignificant "varmints"….. all they do is eat and crap and make more varmints and its fun and they eat my garden and dig holes all through my pasture land

the best scope for a varmint rifle.
I need manufactuers and terms. (minimal magnification – maximum magnification × objective lens)

Again i will be using this scope and rifle for varmint hunting.
The Rifle which will be used:
Savage 12 Series Varmint-Model 12 FVSS in .223 caliber
Varmints-anything from birds, to coyotes to anything else that is a potential hazard to my crop or property

This is how to cam the rest of your gun, IE the stock, scope, action housing, To see how to camo the barrel see my other video, Called “the Ultimate barrel camo” or something like that.

I was looking at these Rifles in a 223 caliber a Savage model 112VS,
Remington model 700, Kimber M84, Ruger & Tikka to go out Varmint Hunting with I would like to know which would be better for me I was thinking either the Remington model 700 or Kimber M84 Rifles and want to put a Leupold VXIII 6.5 20-50mm LR scope on it Do any of you have experiance wih either of these Rifles or which one is best for Varmint Hunting.

I need a recommendation for a 30-06 deer rifle that comes in camo, price really isn’t an issue, I already know the scope I want to use I’m just having trouble finding the right rifle. I want 30-06 because I can use the excellerator rounds for varmint in addition to deer hunting.
This is the load I’ve used for varmint with my old 30-06, it’s a 55 grain bullet:

hello, i want to start hunting, and i have chosen to go with the .243 caliber. i chose this cal. because i want to hunt smaller game such as coyotes. groundhogs, etc. however, i also want to hunt deer occasionally. with the .243 i can do both. i will not be hunting larger game than deer until i am older (when i have more money) and then i will just buy a rifle for elk, etc. so please don’t suggest a different cal.

i have been searching for a good .243 rifle for awhile now and can’t seem to find one, i was hoping all you people out there could help me. If you can show me a rifle with in the specs i am looking at, that would be great.

i am looking for a rifle with a synthetic stock preferably, but, if i like the rifle i may just make an exception and go with wood, and i am also on a budget, as i am only 15. so i want to spend 0 dollars or less, but if need be i may go up to 0.

i was also looking for a scope that i could use but i am unsure of which one to get. i would like a variable power, mil-dot scope, probably with a power of 3-9x but I’m also not sure how big of an objective lens to get? i was looking at maybe a 40? and as i stated before i am on a budget so I’m looking to spend 0 dollars, but if i need to i will spend about -25 dollars more.

But, if you guys can point me to a good combo deal that would be perfect, so i don’t need to go and get both the rifle and scope.

thank you in advance for your help, and i hope i gave you enough info and specifications.

p.s.
i was looking at the Tikka t3 lite rifle because my friend has one in .270 and it is a nice rifle but it is at the top of my price range. also i had my eyes on a Remington m770, i also like this rifle but haven’t seen one in real life.
yes, i have looked at the mosin, i know it is cheap but im not sure i would like the large bullets on the small game… and what is a turn down kit?
also do these rifle’s come left-handed?
sorry, i thought i said i was left-handed… but i guess not.
