Through a great answer from Bound’s hubby, I was able to decide on the AR-15 as a platform for long-range target shooting.

Now I face a problem, I live in California. I have been trying to search through the laws regarding this type of weapon. The government sites state that they are banned as assault rifles. Other sites say that small mods like fixed mags and modified grips will negate assault rifle status.

Anyone have first hand experience with AR laws in CA?

Also, I saw at the Fulton Armory site a 22LR rimfire upper for varmint hunting. Count I possibly purchase that since it says its rimfire status does not make it an assault rifle?

If I do purchase it, can I change it to a standard centerfire upper when I can afford it? All I really know is that one selling point of the AR line is modular design and interchangeability of parts.

I’m buying a Tikka T3 Super Varmint but i’m unsure which calibre to go with. It will be mostly used for medium to long range varmint hunting, of course, but occasionally deer too so it needs to have some stopping power without being overkill for varmint.

hello all, i have been looking into buying a new hunting rifle and have settled on the .243 win. cal. because i will be hunting coyotes, groundhogs, etc. and deer. now i am having some difficulties choosing a rifle. i am split between two, the savage model 110 and the tikka t3 series.
i have chosen these two rifles because they are relatively cheap and in my price range which is about 500-600$$ max. i am having trouble finding a rifle because i am left-handed and idk… the savage is cheaper and all, also something that would help me decide on which one to buy would be the availability of parts and how cheap the parts are.
which model has the most parts readily available? so could i have some help on which one is better, has more parts/accessories, is left handed and is blued. could you help find one on the internet? i seem to can't find any. i appreciated all your help… thanks in advance.

i would like to start hunting, however i don’t really have anywhere to go. i live near pittsburgh. for now i would like to hunt groundhogs, coyotes, etc. varmint basically however i don’t have anywhere to go and don’t know anybody to ask. please give me some advice, and if you need some help solving varmint problems i can help : ).

please give me some public or private areas (with permission of course) where i can hunt.
